Buddy is a very special cat that HydroPaws had the pleasure of working with. In September of 2008, Buddy underwent a femoral head osteotomy (FHO) to repair a fracture in his femoral head. Complications from this procedure and a parasitic infection left Buddy paralyzed in his hind end. By the time Buddy came to HydroPaws, in Novemer of 2008, he was unable to walk on his own.

Over the course of the next four months, Buddy made huge progress during rehabilitation. While most cats do in fact dislike water, Buddy was very cooperative in the underwater treadmill. He would also participate in various land-based exercises, including walking over cavaletti poles and balancing over a physioball. Additionally, Buddy received electric muscle stimulation to help with specific muscle strengthening and neuromuscular re-education.

When Buddy first started therapy, his owner’s main goal was to see Buddy walk again. By the end of March, 2009, Buddy had exceeded this goal! He is now able to walk around his owner’s house without assistance! We are so happy to have helped Buddy get back on his feet!
