Cold Laser Therapy

Laser therapy is used to facilitate healing, decrease pain, and decrease inflammation through the use of light energy. At HydroPaws, we use a Class 3B Cold Laser which is a safe and effective tool to treat a variety of conditions including:

  • Arthritic Disorders

  • Tendonitis/Bursitis/Fasciitis/Capsulitis

  • Tendon/Ligament Injuries

  • Neuralgia

  • Wound Healing (open/post-surgical)

  • Gross Edema

  • Contractures/Scar Tissue

  • To Increase Circulation

  • Pain

  • Muscle Spasm

While it is called “cold” laser therapy, your pet does not feel cold during treatments, there is just no heat produced. Cold laser therapy works at the cellular level and typically patients do not feel anything during treatments. The physiological effects of laser therapy during treatments are:

  • Increases cellular proliferation to speed in healing

  • Stimulates endorphin receptors (endorphins are the body’s natural pain killers)

  • Increases collagen synthesis

  • Increases myofibroblast activity to speed in muscle healing

  • Accelerates inflammation phase of wound healing

  • Enhances immune cells to combat invading pathogens

  • Increases blood flow by means of vasodilation

  • Stimulates chondrocytes, which are the cells responsible for cartilage formation
