Biggie is a happy and loving 10 year old chocolate lab that first came to HydroPaws on February 13,2013. He suffered from a ruptured disc in his spine and had spinal decompression surgery on January 30, 2013. The injury had left Biggie paralyzed in his hind end and his doctors were unsure if he would ever walk again.

Once at HydroPaws, Biggie began intensive rehabilitation therapy. He came 5 days a week and received a variety of treatments: Cold laser therapy, Underwater Treadmill Therapy, Land-Based Therapeutic Exercises, Electric Muscle Stimulation, AlphaStim, and Manual Therapy. Slowly, Biggie began to regain feeling throughout his hind limbs and in March of 2013, he began to take his first steps in the underwater treadmill!

Over the next few months, Biggie continued to progress both in the underwater treadmill and on land. On April 4, 2013, Biggie walked for the first time on land, completely unassisted! Through the use of the underwater treadmill and land-based therapeutic exercises, we continued to work on hind end and core strengthening, as well as coordination and balance. Soon, Biggie was able to jump up and run over to greet everyone that walked in the door!

By June 6, 2013, Biggie had improved so much that he was able to return to his previous level of activity before his injury! Since he had met all of his owners’ goals, Biggie was ready to graduate! We are all so proud of Biggie and all that he accomplished!
